Sister Shelley D. Mitchell

Shelley Denee’ Mitchell was born and raised in Oakland, California. Shelley was reared along with her four siblings by her loving and beloved father, John D. Bolton and mother, Evelyn J. Garner. She became dedicated and committed to serving the Lord in her early teens at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Oakland, California under the Pastorate of the late Dr. Arilee Hightower. She also received spiritual guidance from her beloved uncle, the late Superintendent Harold Johnson, Sr. of the Old Path Miracle Cathedral C.O.G.I.C. of Vallejo, California and the Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church of Oakland, California and
lastly from Pastor Emeritus Reverend Calvin Jones, Jr., the retired pastor of the Providence Baptist Church of San Francisco, California.
Shelley is currently employed with the City and County of San Francisco as a Child Support Professional II and has been employed for the last nine years. Shelley believes that God has placed her in this most unique position. Where the state believes that we are to keep religion and business separate Shelley believes that when the opportunity presents itself to minister you have to heed to the call of ministry.
Shelley has served in several ministry capacities during her life of ministry. She has served as President of the Young Adult Choir at the Pleasant Grove BC, and Youth Leader and Sunday School Teacher at the Good Shepherd MBC. As a member of the Providence Baptist Church in San Francisco she has had the privilege of serving as 2nd Vice President of the Women’s Ministry, Trustee and past Children, Youth and Young Adult Director. Shelley considers herself as a SERVANT LEADER , a servant who has been given specific assignments orchestrated by God and a leader who has been given the ability to lead as she follows. A quote by Aristotle is a quote that Shelley follows: “He who cannot be a good follower cannot be a good leader”.
She has been honored to work and serve in the Home and Foreign Mission District Association during her adolescent and adult years. She has served as President of the Youth Ministry alongside the late Pastor Wenzell Jackson, Administrative Assistant for Past Moderator Reverend Calvin Jones, Jr., Recording Secretary for Past Moderator Bishop Sean Teal and now General Secretary for the current Moderator, Reverend Dr. Ambrose F. Carroll, Sr. She has also served in the California State Baptist Youth Convention under Reverend Welton Pleasant, II who now serves as the Parent Body President and she serves as Recording Secretary. Shelley has also served under Youth Convention past President Reverend John Berry, The Young Adult Convention under past President’s Pastor Derek Walker, the first female President, Reverend Lori Fairley Green and under past Parent Body President Dr. Henry L. Perkins.
Shelley has been married to Nathaniel L. Mitchell since July 15, 2000 and they are the proud godparents of Frank Hall, III and Naomi Williams. Shelley desires to live a life that will make a positive impact, be committed, faithful and be purpose driven in what the Lord leads her to do.
